July in Central Georgia is full. We have a farmers market and a downtown block party on the same Saturday, a drone show after dark, live music on the lawn, an outdoor appreciation day, and a pro rodeo to close out the month. Whether you have littles at home, you are new to the area and still learning your way around, or you just want a good reason to get out of the house, here are six things worth putting on your calendar.

Saturday, July 11, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at The Orchard in Jackson. This is where you meet the people who grow your food and make things by hand. Local farmers, bakers, growers, and makers, all in one place. I will be there first thing Saturday morning, before my beginner sewing class starts, so come find me and say hello. Bring a bag, bring a little cash, and plan to walk a while. It is one of the easiest ways to spend a Saturday morning and support your neighbors while you are at it.

Also Saturday, July 11, starting at 10:00 AM in Downtown Griffin. The 2nd Saturday crew is throwing a block party to celebrate America’s 250th and Spalding County’s 175th. There is all-day fun downtown, a 7:00 PM show as part of the Summer Concert Series, and a drone show at 9:30 PM. If you have never seen a drone show, it is worth staying out past dark for.

Saturday, July 11 at 8:00 PM at the Griffin Opera House. If a night out with music you already know the words to sounds good, this is your evening. The Opera House is a fun, historic room to hear live music in, and a tribute show is a good excuse to make a real date of it.

Saturday, July 18, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Roots Outdoors in Flovilla. A day of outdoor fun, food, and giveaways, with Springside Coffee open on site and in-store specials all day. They are raffling off a Bear archery bow, and the proceeds go back into community events. Family-friendly, and a good one if your crew loves the outdoors.

Friday, July 31, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Locust Grove. This is the rescheduled Fridays on the Lawn concert, featuring Grits & Jelly Butter playing a mix of soul, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, and classic rock. Bring your lawn chairs. There will be a food truck, a lemonade vendor, lawn games, and giveaways. An easy, laid-back way to start a weekend.

Friday and Saturday, July 31 and August 1, with a 7:30 start each night. The Griffin Stampede closes out the month with real rodeo, right here close to home. It is a fun one for the whole family and a great way to cap off July. You can find tickets and details on the Facebook event or at twistedhornrodeo.com.
Here is the thing about Central Georgia. You do not have to drive to Atlanta to find something to do. The people here show up for each other, and these events are a big part of what makes this place feel like home. That is the part that matters, and it is the same reason I love helping people plant roots here.
If you are thinking about buying or selling a home anywhere across Butts, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Monroe, or Spalding County, I would be glad to help. You do not have to figure it out on your own. Reach out anytime at dianamullis.com.
